Agent, Broker, Manager, oh my!

There are a lot of terms floating around about the different roles of people who work in the entertainment industry. Even in America and in English some people aren't clear on the differences. So when you start to translate that over into China and the Chinese language there are definitely gonna be some "lost in translation" type moments. So this post hopefully will help you clear up what each of these roles is, what they are in Chinese, and what they will help you to travel further on your journey as a VO in China. What kind of work have I done in China?

Well, it started pretty simply, reading bilingual dictionaries. Reading until I fell asleep talking! About 12 years ago, "talking pens" and "talking posters/toys" were all the rage in China.  Then, the studio I worked at started getting longer projects. Cartoons started coming in.  Other studios/agents heard about me, friends started recommending me for jobs and I got to do a full length cartoon movie.   Chinese friends that owned factories were starting to advertise more overseas, so company introduction or short product introduction videos started coming.  Educational materials never stopped coming, such as: Storybooks Digital Talking Products Learning Apps Educational/Semi-Educational Cartoons Textbook/Test Prep Material ESL Kids Songs   My favorite job I've gotten of course, is this one for the Guangzhou City Metro: So I did this for 12 years part-time while having other full-time jobs and running businesses.
